Government sets up pilot sites for rehabilitation


The government of Punjab has decided to establish experimental rehabilitation centers in major cities for drugs and issued instructions to all commissioners in this regard.

Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman gave the order in this regard in a meeting on Saturday.

He ordered the development of a management model to manage these centers and that all relevant departments should work together including Social Welfare, Education and Health for this purpose. The meeting also reviewed measures to prevent the use of drugs in schools.

The Chief Secretary ordered the officials to continue the work of student health in educational institutions and make an action plan with the help of the data obtained.

He said, there is a need to increase awareness about the dangers of drugs, adding that Imams of mosques and elders in the area can play an important role in this regard.

He also gave instructions to the Tax Office, to strengthen cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANF) for the preservation of narcotics. . Additional Chief Secretary (Home), administrative secretaries of relevant departments including education, health, tax, social welfare, the Director ANF and concerned officials attended the meeting. All the Divisional Commissioners participated via video link.
