British Pakistani actor Riz Ahmed and Indian actor Deepika Padukone will present awards at the 95th Academy Awards to be held on March 12 at Los Angeles’ Dolly Theatre. Broadcasters for the prestigious annual awards announced the list of nominees on Thursday night.

Joining Padukone and Ahmed as speakers, the list includes Dwayne Johnson, Michael B Jordan, Emily Blunt, Glenn Close, Troy Kotsur, Jennifer Connelly, Samuel L Jackson, Melissa McCarthy, Zoe Saldana, Donnie Yen, Jonathan Majors, Janelle Monae, Ariana DeBose and Questlove.

Ahmed, an Oscar-winning actor, continues to make history for Pakistan on the global stage. Last month, he became the first person of Pakistani origin to announce his nomination for the Academy Awards from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre. He was paired with M3GAN star Allison Williams for the job and posted it on several portals on the internet.

Also, last year Ahmed won his first Oscar for best live-action short film. The Long Goodbye, which he co-wrote with Aneil Karia. He was first nominated for his performance in Sound of Steel. Other grades included Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the department The night of, for which he won an Emmy.

Padukone shared the news with her fans the same night on Instagram and fans and celebrities praised her for her many achievements. Her husband-actor Ranveer Singh dropped angelic faces and clapping hands emojis in the comments section while Neha Dhupia said, “Can’t wait to see you, Deepu.” Fans also compared Padukone’s worldwide success to that of Priyanka Chopra. “Good luck going.” First Priyanka and now Deepika. Indians are winning,” a statement read.

As for the selections from their countries, three Indian films are competing for the selection of the Oscar Awards 2023. RRR’s sing Naatu Naatu is on the shortlist for Best Original Song, after winning the Golden Globe Award in the same category earlier this year. Shaunak Sen’s All That Breathes is nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film and Guneet Monga’s The Elephant Whisperers for Best Documentary Short.

Saim Sadiq Joyland, the official submission of Pakistan to the Oscars 2023, failed to get a place in the selection after being nominated. Ahmed was also an executive director for the film.
