Batsman Iftikhar Ahmed has come out in support of Pakistan captain Babar Azam amid criticism about his leadership skills.
Pakistan did not win a single Test at home under Babar’s captaincy in 2022 and recently lost an ODI series to New Zealand at home.
While talking to a local media outlet, the 32-year-old said criticizing Babar was tantamount to committing a sin.
“Everyone knows there is no other player like Babar in the world,” said Iftikhar.
“People who criticize Babar should first see if they are in a position, where they can say to him. First, reach his level and become a cricketer like him, then criticize Babar,” he added.

Earlier this week, Shadab Khan voiced similar thoughts about Babar and said that fans should understand the importance of the Pakistan captain and not criticize him.
“I think we are doing injustice to such a diamond. Pakistan is blessed with such a big diamond. He is [Babar] a diamond is better than Kohinoor,” said Shadab.
“As a nation, we are not taking Babar for what he is and he is being forced. At the end of the day, he is also a human being. We should respect him in the way the world will respect him,” he added.
